Resveratrol is a naturally occurring phytoalexin produced by some higher plants in response to injury or fungal infection. Resveratrol is not found in the flesh but in the skin of grapes are associated with reduced risk of heart disease. What made resveratrol quite popular was a November 2006 study that reported mice lived longer when given a resveratrol supplement. Resveratrol improves health and survival of mice on a high-calorie diet.
